Workers Compensation In Rhode Island
Have you been injured on the job? If so, you should go here to the state Workers Comp. website and read all the FAQ’s. That will give you a good starting point and familiarize you with the claims process. Then you should learn how to file a claim which should be done right away.
Your employer should be paying for workers compensation insurance because in Rhode Island it is the law that any company with at least one worker must have it. You, the worker, do not need to worry about getting insurance.
Getting The Process Started
The firs thing you need to do is contact your employer (boss or supervisor) to let them know you have been injured. Do that right away. They will then fill out a claim which will be submitted to their insurance company.
If you have questions that your company is unable to answer, please call the Education Unit at (401) 462-8100 option 1 or email the Education Unit at WCEdcUnit@dlt.ri.gov.
Can You Collect Unemployment Benefits too?
Many people wonder whether they are able to collect unemployment benefits at the same time they are collecting workers compensation. The answer to that is NO in the state of Rhode Island. Only once you are off workers comp. can you start collecting unemployment benefits.
