Workers Compensation In South Carolina

For questions about what to do if you get injured, start at the FAQ page on the state website. Other than that page, information for injured workers is difficult to find.

Always report any injury you have to your supervisor immediately. All injuries need to be documented so that the insurance company will honor your claim.

Your company should, by law, have workers comp. insurance and it is that insurance company that will be paying for your medical expenses and other expenses associated with the injury.

Will You Get Paid If You Miss Work?

If your injury means that you have to miss work too, workman’s comp. will most likely pay you a part of your normal wages. It is important for you to follow all instructions given to you by your employer and their insurance company so that all claims are paid. Failure to follow instruction could reduce or invalidate your claim.

If Insurance Denies Your Claim

There are circumstances when workers compensation claims are rejected by insurance companies. This usually happens when they determine your injury is not work related and/or they say you have not followed the rules. If this happens to you, it may be necessary to get legal counsel involved to help get your benefits.
